2 Setting Preservation Priorities: Cultural Resources Priority Area Planning Why set priorities? –Resources (time and money) are scarce –We will continue to lose parts of our Heritage regardless of current laws and policies –Opportunities for preservation are often reactive (i.e. project-driven) –Proactive regional planning is the best way to avoid areas of potential conflict 2
