Speaking and Listening The importance of speaking and listening with confidence Develops their spoken language Builds their vocabulary Improves their writing

Reading Reading is making meaning from print. It requires that we: Identify the words in print – a process called word recognition (learn the Year 4 high frequency words and use phonics to read unfamiliar words) Construct an understanding from them – a process called comprehension (asking and answering questions related to the text) Coordinate identifying words and making meaning so that reading is automatic and accurate – an achievement called fluency

Writing " Writing" is the process of using symbols (letters of the alphabet, punctuation and spaces) to communicate thoughts and ideas in a readable form.
