2 WARM UP: Making connections: O Talk to a partner in your group about how you wrote equivalent fractions. O How is writing an equivalent ratio similar to writing equivalent fractions?

5 Give a part to part, a part to whole and a whole to part ratio for the picture.

6 Take your part to part ratio and write it three different ways.

7 Check your work with a partner in your group.

8 Identify the following as part to part, part to whole, or whole to part ratios. O It rained 2 out of 5 days. What kind of ratio is 3:2? O John painted 3 out of 4 benches. What kind of ratio is 1:4? What does 1 represent? O There are three dogs for every cat. What kind of ratio is 3:1? What would be the whole?

9 Think of one thing you did this week that you could make into a ratio problem. O Example: 7 out of the 9 people riding their bikes were wearing helmets O Prepare to share your thoughts.

10 Write equivalent ratios. O 45 cats to 15 dogs = _____ cats to 1 dog O 12 straws for 18 glasses = 2 straws for _____ glasses
