Transformational Leadership Transformational leadership is a motivational style of management whereby employees are encouraged to achieve greater performance through inspirational leadership, which develops employee self-confidence and higher achievement of goals. As the leader of the nursing service, the chief nurse manager must be knowledgeable, a transformational leader who articulates a vision and philosophy, communicates expectations, develops leaders, and implements a structure to meet the current and future needs of nursing and the organisation. Nurse managers are responsible for nurse performance and retention, and the managers leadership style is critical to the achievement of these outcomes

The Transformational leader is viewed as a person who is absolutely sure of himself/herself, who can communicate his/her vision of the future to his/her followers The followers of a transformational leader are developed because they grow intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. They develop new aspirations, and professional and personal values, and tend to think more creatively. Now This is Magic Transformational Leaders

Transformational leadership is a new criterion for nurse managers and is evident when the following characteristics are apparent in a health care setting: A staff retention rate of at least 85%High morale of staff which can easily be discernedStaff members display an enthusiastic approach to patient careA team spirit is apparent among staffStaff members express a sense of achievement and belongingThe patients and families who are served are satisfied

Research Problem in Transformational Leadership Lack of commitment, inadequate planning, leadership inaction are among the list of factors that contribute to organisational change failures. In addition, despite the massive amount of data available about organisational change several sources point that successful organisational change remains elusive. Today’s organisations face ever increasing change, which needs more adaptive flexible leadership that is becoming increasingly important Traditionally nurses were over managed and inadequately led Effective leadership is a vehicle through which healthcare delivery and consumer demands can be fulfilled.

Significance of Transformational Leadership The significance of my study in nursing practice is to be able to attain a continuous learning environment that emphasises improvement as a core priority, by adopting a transformational leadership approach to nursing management Achieving quality care will only be realised when leaders in the healthcare sector at all levels encourage and demand organisations to employ transformational leadership that capture the patient experience reliably and when data is used for improvements To further address quality issues, the implementation of standards and best practices that promote improved patient outcomes and staff satisfaction
