4 Polyurethane Foam Manufacturing 1.Reaction of raw materials (liquids) in stainless steel tanks. A metering device is used to regulate the release of the correct amount of reactive material. 2.Reacting materials are then passed through a “heat exchanger as they are pumped into pipes.” The heat exchanger levels the temperature to the specified reactive level. The polymerization reaction happens within the pipes. When the polymerizing liquid reaches the end of the pipe, the polyurethane is finished forming. At the end of the pipe is a dispensing nozzle for the polymer. 3.Baking paper is laid out on the conveyor belt and brought underneath the pipes 4.Polyurethane is blown onto the paper and is mixed with carbon dioxide; causing it to expand and rise. 5.A second layer of paper is rolled on top as well as along the sides-each layer of paper has the polyurethane foam, which gives its shape. It is passed through panels that control the height and width of the foam, and is then dried. 6.The foam is cut with an automatic saw.
