5 2) Is there any way of getting out of doing this? PGCE:HE ???

6 3) Who is judging this? Your application will be reviewed by a panel of two independent accreditors as part of a peer review. Accreditors are selected for their experienced of external review, their understanding of the UKPSF, as well as for their knowledge and experience of learning and teaching in higher education.

7 4) What makes a successful application? There are two main elements to the application: 1)An account of professional practice (APP) This is a reflective commentary on your higher education roles, responsibilities and professional experience, focused on the UKPSF 2) Supporting statements from two referees (REF)

8 5) Can I reapply if I get it wrong? Yes, you will get feedback and you will be offered one opportunity to resubmit without further charge after which, if your application is still unsuccessful, you have the option of reapplying at further cost.

9 6) Who pays? The fee is £200. 1. Members of academic staff should contact Robert Morrison in HR (r.morrison@bbk.ac.uk) who will arrange their payment using the College credit card. 2. Learning Developers, Librarians etc. should contact Dr Jennifer Fraser directly and she will liaise with HR 3. T&S staff should contact Dr Jennifer Fraser directly if their department is not paying for their application.

10 7) What will happen if I just don’t do it? ? Check the requirements of your probation. 8) Will this help my career? You will be counted in the TEF as a qualified member of staff. You will have the qualification which is portable and relevant at any UK institution The process may be a helpful opportunity to reflect on your practice.

11 9)How much work is involved? You will write 3,000 words. There are 5 sections, each one will provide evidence of separate area of activity. They are, your ability to: 1)Design and plan learning activities and/or programmes of study 2)Teach and/or support learning 3)Assess and give feedback to learners 4)Develop effective learning environments and approaches to student support and guidance 5)Engage in continuing professional development in subjects/disciplines and their pedagogy, incorporating research, scholarship and the evaluation of professional practices.

12 10) How we make this meaningful? 1)Opportunity to reflect on your teaching and the depth of your pedagogical thinking 2)Potential to meet others from other curriculum areas to share approaches 3)Can you use this process to kick start something else (eg BETA award, application for new job/promotion etc.) 4)It might provoke you to think about where you are going and what you value.
