Beaumanor Hall Residential 2015/16

What is Beaumanor Hall? Beaumanor Hall is an outdoor learning centre situated in Woodhouse, Leicestershire. The residential to Beaumanor Hall has run for many years from St. Peter’s as the children’s first experience of an overnight residential. The outdoor learning centre is set in the Park grounds next to the magnificent Beaumanor Hall and has accommodation blocks, activity blocks and a range of outdoor activities.

Where is Beaumanor Hall? Beaumanor Hall is located within the village of Woodhouse, which is situated between Woodhouse Eaves and Quorn, approximately 4 miles south of Loughborough and 12 miles north of Leicester.

When are we going to Beaumanor Hall? Thursday 11 th February to Friday 12 th February 2016. Depart at 9am (prompt!) and return at 2.45pm Ausden Clarke Coach Company Please be in school by 8:50 at the latest so that registers, medical forms and spending money can be sorted to leave at 9. (I will be available in the hall from 8:40 onwards if you need to speak to me)

Who is accompanying the children? Miss Geary, Mrs Green, Mrs Doggett and Mr Monaghan (in the evening) There is a staff ratio of 1:10 (plus Beaumanor staff) in the day as outlined in guidance from county about off site activities plus staff from Beaumanor at each activity. There are 2 members of staff in each cabin at night.

Why are we going to Beaumanor Hall? Fantastic opportunity for the children to learn outside of the classroom. Activities linked to our ‘Pirate’ topic but also chances to develop social, team work and personal skills. (e.g. confidence) Beaumanor offers a great range of activities, superb accommodation and tremendous food. The staff are highly trained and there is a high level of security.

What will the children be doing? Outdoor Activities – Team challenges: exciting physical and mental games/puzzles to bring out team-working skills within a group. Other skills include problem-solving, leadership, and physical coordination. – Orienteering: A very successful orienteering programme that develops the children’s directional/ map skills and team work.

What will the children be doing? This year we will be dressing up as … Pirates – Children are encouraged to bring pirate outfits to wear on day 2. It will help them to get into character during the activities that day. – This day includes the captain’s state room, a secret pirate cavern, treasure hunts, maths trails and sing-a-longs and much, much more…

What will we be doing? Evening activity is a murder mystery outside in groups (weather depending!) If the weather is bad, there are plenty of games and activities to do inside!

Food Lunch will be served in the cabins. There is: a choice of sandwich, fruit and yoghurt (and usually a yummy muffin!) Dinner is served in Beaumanor Hall’s posh dining room. They can cater for different diets so there is always something delicious for everyone to eat. (pizza/jacket potatoes/salad/bread) Breakfast will be served in the cabins. There will be a choice of cereals and toast with butter/jams. A hot drink can also be provided. Before bed there is a hot drink and biscuits. (tea/hot chocolate) If there are any specific dietary requirements, please ensure that we are aware of them as soon as possible to let the catering staff know.

Safety/security Each cabin has an internal alarm system which sounds if a door is opened within the cabin. The grounds have a locked gate only accessible by a key code. All of the area is surrounded by high fences. Only staff have keys to the cabins where all belongings are kept.

Bedtime … ZzZzZzZz... The sleeping accommodation is dormitory style cabins and there is a common room, bathroom and kitchen in each of them. Girls and boys will be in separate cabins with 2 members of staff in each. They will be sleeping on bunk beds and can choose who they want to sleep near when they get there. Staff will be sleeping in rooms adjacent to the main dormitory room. A hot drink and biscuits will be provided before the children… hopefully.. fall asleep because they are so exhausted. And one more thing… Teddies are COMPULSORY and onesies are welcome!

Kit List Please ensure that kit is packed in a manageable bag as the children have to carry their own luggage to the cabins. Children can bring £3 pocket money to spend in the gift shop. Please put this in a purse/envelope with your child’s name on so that it can be collected on the morning of departure. Money must not be left in luggage. Important things to pack: torch, toiletries, water proof clothes, warm clothes, water bottle. No electronics are allowed including, ipods/phones/hand held games/cameras. Small travel games/ books can be brought for quiet times when the children are in their rooms. A disposable camera can be taken if they wish to take pictures. A reminder of the kit list will be sent out before we go.

Medicines Medical and dietary forms should already have been collected. (If you have not already done so – please send into the office asap!) If your child has any medicines, they need to be handed in before we depart. (do not put in the children’s bags) They should be clearly labelled and have any instructions for administering them on the box/bottle. If you have any concerns about medicines, please do not hesitate to ask.

Contact in case of Emergency During the school day, the first point of contact is through the school office. After school hours, in case of serious emergency, please use the school mobile contact number which will be provided before we go. Updates whilst we’re there.. A text will be sent out to let you know we have arrived safely. We will update the school again in the morning to let you know how we slept … if we slept! If we are likely to be late returning to school, we will text to let you know. 3G/wifi signal depending – I will be posting updates onto a blog which will be accessed via the class page of the school website. Details of this will be provided before we go.
