Scheduling for Students Each student will actually be enrolled in a class Will be on their fall student schedule Will be on STInet in real time Faculty and Staff can use the LMS Have attendance Materials in the class for future Standardized schedules using 75 minute blocks Groups were scheduled together better for similar training and eating

Food No Main Breakfast - Snacks Money will go to each program or group of program on a per student basis to buy lunch Piloted in the spring and it worked better Water will be provided and will be cold thanks to Tim and Paul

Presentation Length and Schedules Standard 75 minute periods “Laptop Training” has been extended “Student Success Showcase” and “How to Pay for School” have been consolidated

Communication to Students They will get their schedule at orientation this summer The schedule will tell them where to be and when The schedule will be on STInet all summer They will get a letter/postcard a couple weeks prior to the event

Support for Students Jim will have the golf cart for helping students We will have the cameras in the appropriate buildings and the printer in Tech Center so they can get their laptop Distribution of duties If a student needs something (a schedule, to find a room, etc.) and you can help them, them please do so

Virtual Machine Pilot Program

Laptop Initiative In an academic retreat a goal was set to move all academic programs to laptops in two years by the start of Fall 2012 STI’s mission is education for employment STI’s strength is providing the most technically advanced students At this time we had several programs that were not part of the laptop program In year 1 (2011-2012) we moved all but 5 programs to laptops In year 2 (2012-2013) all of the remaining programs will become part of the Virtual Machine Pilot Program

Two Paths Academics Five programs were planning on moving to laptops Faculty started researching the use of iPads and other devices in education IT Dept Virtual Machines were created for many areas Online Programming MC 167 Lab All Public Machines

Synergy In Fall of 2012 we will pilot Virtual Machines for these remaining programs and a few more ProgramDevice Surg Tech/InvasiveiPads Nuc Med, Phleb, ENDT, WeldingBYOD (Bring your own device) All Online ProgramsVirtual Machine Access GraphicsVM Access for Windows Side Office AssistantLaptops with VMware

Pilot Details STI wants to test the viability of virtual machines for possible greater use STI wants to build up the IT infrastructure to accommodate the utilization of more virtual machines STI wants to build a support model for a variety of devices
