The Day of Resurrection CW # 166 Verses 1-3 Text: John of Damascus, c. 696-c. 754 Setting: LANCASHIRE Tune: Henry T. Smart, 1813-79

Verse 1: The day of resurrection! Earth, tell it out abroad, The Passover of gladness, The Passover of God. From death to life eternal, From this world to the sky, Our Christ has brought us over With hymns of victory.

Verse 2: Our hearts be pure from evil That we may see aright The Lord in rays eternal Of resurrection light And, list'ning to his accents, May hear, so calm and plain, His own "All hail!" and, hearing, May raise the victor strain.

Verse 3 (Please Rise): Now let the heav'ns be joyful; Let earth her song begin. Let all the world keep triumph And all that is therein. Let all things, seen and unseen, Their notes of gladness blend; For Christ the Lord has risen; Our joy shall have no end.

Opening Verses Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. Pastor: Oh, how I love your law! All: I meditate on it all day long.

Opening Verses Pastor: Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, All: for they are ever with me. Pastor: I have more insight than all my teachers All: for I meditate on your statutes.

Opening Verses Pastor: How sweet are your words to my taste, All: sweeter than honey to my mouth! Pastor: All Scripture is God- breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

Opening Verses All: so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Pastor: Yet so often we have despised God’s Word and failed to gladly hear and learn it. For this and all our sins, we bow before God and humbly ask his forgiveness.

Confession of Sin All: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity.

Confession of Sin All: But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness) All: Amen.

Prayer of the Day Pastor: Let us pray. (Pastor says the prayer of the day) All: Amen.
