Frankenstein: The Story of Creator vs. Creation Tia’rah Kindle and Ta’rah Kindle A.P. Lit. and Comp. Oct. 24, 2012

The Creator ► Victor Frankenstein is an inquisitive scientist in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Victor dabbles in natural philosophy, a study of the heavenly functions. Victor creates the Creature through his studies.

The Creation ► The Creature, who was never named is sometimes referred to as Demon by Victor, is the creation. The Creature is scorned by mankind and in turn has come to abhor humans.

The theme ► Creator vs. Creation is a very important theme. There are many examples of creator vs. creation relationships, such as the one between Victor Frankenstein and his father Alphonse, and most obviously Victor and the Creature. ► Frankenstein is called the modern Prometheus because Victor is trying to steal the secrets of God in the same way that Prometheus stole fire from the gods.

"Whence, I often asked myself, did the principle of life proceed?” ► Victor Frankenstein is very much compared to God in several instances. Victor begins his journey through creation with this statement. He begins to question why shouldn’t he be able to create life himself. This is a very dangerous question and leads ultimately to his downfall.

The basic idea ► Creator Vs. Creation deals with Frankenstein's Godly complex and the Creatures' Fallen Angel complex. ► Through Creator V. Creation the idea of Nature vs. Nurture was also explored. After being abandoned by his creator the Creature began to learn thing on his own such as hunger and cold, but after witnessing the relationship of Felix and his family he began to experience deeper feelings such as loneliness and yearning.
