1. Walsh’s Updates Week of: September 7th – 18 th Welcome to 4 th Grade 2015 – 2016 school year! Hip, Hip, Hurray for a fantastic first week of school! What a great group of kids!! They are doing a wonderful job listening, following instruction and working in collaborative groups and independently. I look forward to seeing all of you at Open House on September 10 th 6:30 – 7:30. The evening will be set up differently this year. Please meet in the gym at 6:30 to meet and hear our new Principal, Mr. Meyer. The schedule is listed below. We will be using this publication many times during the month. I will need to collect the $7.00 as soon as possible. Curriculum Corner Math: Unit 1 Place Value starting with Thousands and moving into the Millions Multi digit Addition and Subtraction Rounding Numbers Comparing numbers to the greater number. We will begin working on Multiplication and Division math facts in 3 – 4 minute math timings. PE and Music: Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:15 – 12:15 Tech: Media is on Friday at 11:!5 – 11:45 Reading is Thinking: Library is on Fridays at 11:45 – 12:15 Choosing- just right books at their reading level. Monitoring Comprehension and tracking their thinking through a story. Writing- Personal Narratives with a beginning, middle and end. Dates to Remember Thursday, September 10 th, OPEN HOUSE 6:30 – 7:30 Everyone K – 5 6:30 -6:40 Start/Welcome (gym) – Scott will welcome and introduce new staff/change Students will stay in the gym for the reptile man! 6:45 – 7:05 – Rotation 1 7:10 – 7:30 – Rotation 2 7:30 (popsicles on the way out) Communication Attached is a daily schedule and parent questionnaire. Please take a few minutes to brag about your child’s strengths and what we can work on to help them to become stronger individuals. Please return the questionnaire by Thursday, September 10 th. Thank you so much… Homework: Please sign or initial the agenda daily. This is so that we have a three way communication student, teacher and parent. If there is anything big happening during your child’s day, I will text or call you personally. Nightly Reading - 30 minutes Math - that was not finished in class, memorization of Multiplication and Division fast facts through 12. Language - Starting next week look for a spelling list to come home on Mondays. Pretest on Mondays and a Final test on Friday. If the new list is forgotten at school, no worries, it will also be listed in their agendas for that week, and in the Spelling City (linked from the Swift page.) Special Projects. Once in awhile there will be writing homework that needs to be finished up. There is also the Growing Up Growing Older project that the 4 th grade does in the spring.
