By the end of the lesson, you will be able to multiply a two-digit number by a one-digit number. Standard 4NS3.2 - Demonstrate an understanding of, and the ability to use, standard algorithms for multiplying a multidigit number by a two-digit number and for dividing a multidigit number by a one-digit number; use relationships between them to simplify computations and to check results.

Hands-On Mini Activity Using the base ten blocks, we will be exploring multiplying two-digit numbers. Let’s try to model 4 x 13 Step 1 – Model 4 groups of 13 (1 ten and 3 ones) Step 2 – Combine the tens and ones. Regroup 12 ones as 1 ten and 2 ones. Step 3 – Add the products together. So, 4 x 13 = 52

Let’s look at another problem: 24 x 3 How many ones are in 24? Multiply the ones by 3. What is the product? Now, multiply the tens by the 3. What is the product? Add the two products together. What is the sum?

Let’s try to multiply a two-digit number with regrouping. There are several ways to multiply numbers. I am going to show you the traditional paper and pencil method. Problem: 3 x 94 Concept in Motion!!

Let’s Watch Mr. Hardesty do one of these!! Mr. Hardesty!!
