2 Kirstin Riddick EDIM 508 Digital Media in the Classroom Place Value – To the Hundreds Place This presentation is intended to give second grade students a variety of audio/visual and interactive experiences to enhance the understanding of whole number place value to the hundreds place. This PowerPoint presentation can be used in part for a whole group demonstration or it can be used as an independent student learning center activity in class or at home. 7 Numbers, such as 84, have two digits. Each digit is a different place value. The left digit is the tens' place which is 8 in this example. It tells you that there are 8 tens. The right digit is the ones’ place. It tells you there are 4 ones. Therefore, there are 8 sets of 10 plus 4 ones in the number 84. 8484 84 1

8 Numbers, such as 284, have three digits. Each digit is a different place value. The left digit is the hundreds' place. It tells you that there are 2 hundreds. The center digit is the tens' place which is 8 in this example. It tells you that there are 8 tens. The right digit is the ones’ place. It tells you there are 4 ones. Therefore, there are 2 sets of 100, 8 sets of 10, plus 4 ones in the number 284. 284284 2 84 1
