Printing Press WHAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT CONSEQUENCE OF THE PRINTING PRESS?

Bellwork In your groups, quickly discuss the historical significance of the printing press. Why does it matter and how did it change the world? You will need your notebooks, a piece of paper (NOT in your notebook), and a pen or pencil.

STEP 1 INDIVIDUAL DOCUMENT ANALYSIS Analyze your assigned documents and answer the questions on a separate piece of paper. You will be sharing this with your group. DO YOUR PART!

STEP 2 GROUP DOCUMENT ANALYSIS Share your responses to the questions and as a group, determine the most important information to put into your graphic organizer.

SPEED AND SPREAD OF PRINTING The printing press made printing more efficient and quickly spread throughout Europe. More and more people had access to information.

INFLUENCE ON RELGION The printing press enabled people to publically criticize the Church, leading to a reformation that led to new denominations (branches) of Christianity and conflict.

INFLUENCE ON EXPLORATION The printing press gave people access to maps, inspiring many to begin to explore and travel, eventually connecting the entire world.

INFLUENCE ON LITERATURE Printed the Classics as well as new ideas and spread information, enabling others to build on the existing foundation.

STEP 3 FINAL QUESTION Using your information, answer the final question: What was the most important consequence of the printing press? Be sure to use evidence to support your response. 3-5 sentences.
