Why Hunt Sperm Whales For their blubber, which is used for candles, soap, cosmetics, machine oil, other specialized lubricants, lamp oil, pencils, crayons, leather waterproofing, rust- proofing materials and many pharmaceutical compound.

Why the whale attacked Females are protective of their young and at the time of the attack their was a harpooning boat out after another whale which could have been one of the females young. Which triggered the female whale to attack. Sperm whales can be set off by different noises. Right before the attack a crew member was hammering nails into a boat to fix it which might have triggered the male whale to attack.
