6. Where do humans get their resources? Natural Resource – any natural substance, organism, or energy form that living things use.

7. There are two types of resources. Renewable Resource – a natural resource that can be used and replaced over a relatively short time.

8. Renewable Resources Ex amples of Renewable Resources are:  Energy from the Sun  Wind  Water  Wood  Fruits and Vegetables  Meat from animals

9. Renewable Resources Although many resources are renewable, humans often use them more quickly than they can be replaced.

10. There are two types of resources. Nonrenewable Resource – a natural resource that cannot be replaced or that can be replaced only over thousands or millions of years.

11. Ex amples of Nonrenewable Resources are:  Fossil Fuels  Coal  Petroleum  Natural Gas  Rocks  Minerals  Metals – if not recycled  Plastics

12. Nonrenewable Resources The amounts of nonrenewable resources on Earth are fixed with respect to their availability to human use. Once nonrenewable resources are used up, they are no longer available.

13. How can we conserve natural resources? Try to use them only when necessary.  Don’t keep the faucet running.

14. How can we conserve resources? Recycling – the process by which used or discarded material are treated for reuse.

15. Why is recycling important? Recycling allows manufacturers to reuse natural resources when making new products. This in turn reduces the amount of natural resources that must be obtained from the Earth.
