5 Mathematics is split into 2 strands. These are: number shape, space and measures

6 Number 40-60+ months (3 years, 4 months – 5 years) Recognise some numerals of personal significance. Recognises numerals 1 to 5. Counts up to three or four objects by saying one number name for each item. Counts actions or objects which cannot be moved. Counts objects to 10, and beginning to count beyond 10. 7 Much of the maths EYFS curriculum for Nursery and Reception children is heavily reliant on the use of mathematical vocabulary and the ability of children to be able to explain and share their ideas. The Importance of Language

8 Problem Solving Maths is more than ‘counting’, ‘adding’ and ‘taking away’. It is about applying knowledge, giving reasons for choices and answers, developing logic and having fun!

9 Home: Games: ‘Snakes & Ladders’, dominoes Setting the table, how many people, how many knives, etc. Sorting the washing by size, colour etc. Can you cut your toast into squares, triangles? Pocket money Singing Nursery Rhymes and maths through stories Lots of apps and websites aimed at making maths fun I Spy (shapes or colours) Outdoors: number hunts estimate the leaves on a branch compare the size of leaves look for patterns (e.g. fencing, roofing) car colours I Spy (shapes or colours) Maths is everywhere!
