5.4 Standard Form Today’s Schedule: Lesson 5.4 Powerpoint Lesson 5.4 Powerpoint In class assignment/homework In class assignment/homework GOAL: Write an equation of a line in standard form. KEY WORDS Standard form Slope-intercept form Point-slope form Integer coefficient
9
5.4 Standard Form STANDARD FORM The STANDARD FORM of an equation of a line is: Ax + By = C Where A and B are integers (not fractions) and not both zero.

EXAMPLE 2 Write an Equation in Standard Form Write in standard form an equation of the line passing through (-4, 3) with a slope of -2. Use integer coefficients. 1.Write the point slope formy – y 1 = m(x – x 1 ) 2.Substitute -2 for m, and -4 for x 1, and 3 for y 1. 3.Simplify the equation 4.Use the distributive property 5.Add 3 to each side. (Slope-intercept form) 6.Add 2x to each side. (Standard form)
13
5.4 Standard Form PRACTICE Write in standard for an equation of the line passing through (3, -5) with a slope of -3. Use integer coefficients.
