While China was one of the oldest countries they still had many problems. As nationalism was on the rise. China wanted to catch up and modernize.

New Party’s Develop in China. 1921 Sun Yixian started Nationalist party in South China. Eventually taken over by Jiang Jieshi. (opposing communism) 1926 JJ marched into North China and executes communists. 1927 Civil War Begins.

Communism against Nationalists Tried to organize peasants in Southeast China.

Long March JJ lead many programs against the communists. Zedong and “red bandits” fled 6,000 miles; 100,000 started, 20,000 ended. Ended in North China.

Japanese Invasion will weaken China Japanese went into Manchuria in 1931. Jiang- nationalists had to ban together with communists to go against Japan. 1937 Japan marches into Nanjing.

Rape of Nanjing When Japan took over Nanjing, it was entitled the rape of Nanjing. People were slaughtered.
