Fastest Veeam Ingest and VM Boots
Veeam Backup & Replication does the typical Veeam command and control – producing a snapshot Veeam Backup Proxy pulls data from the snapshot Veeam Backup Proxy and Accelerated Data Mover use TCP session(s) to stream backup data – this streaming is optimized for VM backups – e.g. block sizes, write sizes, etc. Takes full advantage of higher NIC speeds like 10Gbps. Accelerated Data Mover running inside the ExaGrid appliance does physical I/O to ExaGrid disk (RAID-6) subsystem. Benefits: Faster backup because streaming from Veeam Backup Proxy to Accelerated Data Mover is “Veeam code talking to Veeam code” and is optimized for streaming backup data, unlike CIFS which is a file sharing protocol. 30% Faster than CIFS Veeam job statistics now tend to show much lower “target” costs

Veeam Synthetic Full backups allow Veeam to synthesize a periodic full backup rather than having to pull the full amount of data from the virtual infrastructure. You want periodic fulls to improve restore times. Veeam Backup & Replication does the typical Veeam command and control – producing a snapshot – to do the final incremental Veeam Backup Proxy pulls only changed data from the snapshot (its an incremental) After incremental completes, Veeam Backup Proxy commands Accelerated Data Mover to do the synthetic full The Accelerated Data Mover has direct access to all the Veeam backups on the ExaGrid disk (RAID-6) subsystem, so all the I/O to read then write the synthetic full backup is “local” to the Accelerated Data Mover and hence much faster – 6x (found by ESG Lab) Data to assemble the synthetic full does NOT travel across the network between the ExaGrid and the Veeam Backup Proxy – one less bottleneck or resources freed for other things Benefits: Much faster synthetic full – 6x or more Less network impact during synthetic full Users who previously wanted to utilize Veeam synthetic fulls (because they don’t use up valuable virtual infrastructure like the Veeam Active full does) but couldn’t because they took too long can now “have their cake and eat it too”.
