How plant roots work!
2
Germination All plants once started as a seed. These seeds become lodged in soil.
3
Growth Primary growth is downward growth.
Secondary growth is growth in diameter. Roots can grow in any direction from the plant. Roots can grow to massive sizes causing damage to structures if placed to close.
4
Types of Roots Fibrous roots – A mass of roots of similar size . These form large root systems in a small amount of time. Taproot – One large root that all fibrous roots expand from. Can be used for storage of carbohydrates.
5
Function Roots are the foundation for every plant. They gather nutrients, water, and minerals through them. These roots feed all the parts of the plant. The roots grow from germination, the growth of the roots and plant parts.
