3 Prefixes A prefix is a word or letter that is placed at the beginning of another word, changing its meaning. base word prefixed word type of meaning possible impossible opposite able unable opposite/negation payment non-payment negation war pre-war time (before) Visible Invisible Can’t see cook overcook (too much)

4 Nouns A noun is a person, place or thing.
Common nouns are general, like teacher, city and brother. Proper nouns are specific. They name the person, place or thing. Like Miss Mounia, Abu Dhabi and Ahmed. They are all being named specifically.

5 Compound nouns A compound noun forms two or more words together to make a single noun. Some examples are: Toothbrush: Tooth + Brush Schoolbag: School + Bag Backpack: Back + Pack Ice-cream: Ice + cream Milkshake: Milk + Shake

6 Collective Nouns A collective noun is a noun that is referring to a group of things or people. Some examples are: A herd of sheep A swarm of bees A pack of bears A crowd of people A school of fish

7 Synonyms A synonym is a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word. Some examples: Beautiful: Attractive, Pretty, Lovely, Stunning Happy: Content, Joyful, Upbeat Unhappy: Sad, Depressed,Miserable

8 Connectives A connective is a word or phrase that connects two sentences. Examples: However,but,nevertheless,meanwhile,afterward.
