My Passion: Endangered Animals By: Amalia Carusone 9-2

Why I Chose My Passion: Ever since I was a child, I’ve always been interested in animals and the environment. I read books and did research on any type of animal that came to mind. As I learned more about animals, I learned about endangered animals as well. I became interested in which animals are endangered, and what we as individuals and groups can do to help. It is important to save endangered species because there are animals that provide food, medical, and agricultural benefits for us. Also, these animals are a part of a food chain that will be altered if they become endangered or extinct.

Connection to A.O.I: Environment My passion connects to environment because animals are a part of our environment, wherever we may be. Endangered animals have to be kept alive to stay part of our environment. It’s our job to keep the environment safe and healthy to prevent more endangered animal species or extinction of animal species. Questions Relating to A.O.I- 1) What can we do to keep our environment safe for animals? 2) What animals live in or around our environment? 3) How can we get more involved with our environment?

Causes of Endangered Animals Endangered animals are animals that have a chance of becoming extinct. This can happen through destruction of habitats, pollution, poaching, or disease. Destruction of habitats is when an environment is ruined due to humans or natural changes to which the animals can’t adapt to. Pollution is when toxic chemicals take over environments and pollute the water, trees, and foods of animals causing them to become endangered. Poaching is a sport where animals are hunted and sold. Disease can be a natural cause because not all diseases are brought to animals by humans. When a disease does occur among a species of animals, we as humans try as hard to identify what caused the disease and try to find a cure for it.

Ways to Help Endangered Animals To help endangered animals, we should help keep their environments clean. You can volunteer at a local park or join a foundation that involves cleaning common habitats and saving endangered species.
