Power involves the capacity of one party to influence another party, but this influence has been described and measured in several different ways. Influence over a single target and over thing and events, attitudes and behaviors.

Legitimate Power- formal authority Reward Power- rewards stemming from the agent that controls rewards Coercive Power- punishments by authority Referent Power- power derived from want to please an authoritative figure Expert Power- Task and knowledge skill Information Power- control over information Ecological Power- control over the work environment Personal and Position Power- general categories in which the other types fall under.
