6 Example – Work Period Article #1 Analysis: The article “Recovering from Childhood Neglect” primarily uses a problem-solution text structure. While the text uses several other text structures, problem-solution is seen throughout. One of the first problems is “childhood neglect leads to long term effects” (page 1, paragraph 1.) A proposed solution is to know yourself, know your strengths, and know your weaknesses. (page 1, paragraph 2.) Another solution mentioned was not to blame yourself for the actions of others (page 1, paragraph 3.) One more solution suggested was to find a book to reference and “use the techniques until they feel natural.” (page 2, paragraph 6.) Article #1 Character Write-Up: In “Recovering from Childhood Neglect” the central idea I found was childhood neglect is extremely negative, yet powerful. If you believe in yourself, you can overcome the effects and that will help you gain the experiences in life you are missing. As a child, I felt like I was neglected by my parents. After reading this article, it has given me ways to pick myself up and change myself for the better. I’m glad people like this author are speaking up about childhood neglect. I appreciate the fact that people are trying to make a positive difference and raise awareness about childhood neglect. I’m starting to realize being around the gang has made me the person I am today and this has helped me get through all my experiences through this point. The solutions listed here give me some suggestions to think about turning my life around.
