The big idea of Unit 6 Incorporating SMPs into polynomial functions Resources Welcome!
4
I’ve noticed that many of the standards are the same from previous units and courses, do we have to teach them again? Wiki/Email Questions

Trina has a conjecture: “Pick any two integers, Look at the sum of their squares, the difference of their squares, and twice the product of the two integers you chose. Those three numbers are the sides of a right triangle.” Is Trina’s conjecture true? Adapted from Illustrative Mathematics A-APR Trina’s Triangles

“Pick any two integers, Look at the sum of their squares, the difference of their squares, and twice the product of the two integers you chose. Those three numbers are the sides of a right triangle.” Is the conjecture true, if so prove it, if not modify it to be true and show it is true. Adapted from Illustrative Mathematics A-APR Trina’s Triangles

What’s the big idea? Use complex numbers in polynomial identities and equations. Interpret the structure of expressions. Write expressions in equivalent forms to solve problems. Perform arithmetic operations on polynomials. Understand the relationship between zeros and factors of polynomials. Use polynomial identities to solve problems. Solve systems of equations. Represent and solve equations and inequalities graphically. Analyze functions using different representations.

What’s the big idea? SMP 1 – Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them SMP 2 – Reason abstractly and quantitatively SMP 3 – Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others SMP 4 – Model with mathematics SMP 5 – Use appropriate tools strategically http://blog.mrmeyer.com/ http://bit.ly/17QDmw9 http://www.schooltube.com/video/81f35b2779ef8d4727fd/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRMVjHjYB6w

Examples & Explanations Susan has an ear infection. The doctor prescribes a course of antibiotics. Susan is told to take 250 mg doses of the antibiotic regularly every 12 hours for 10 days. Susan is curious and wants to know how much of the drug will be in her body over the course of the 10 days. She does some research online and finds out that at the end of 12 hours. About 4% of the drug is still in the body. Adapted from Illustrative Mathematics A-SSE Course of Antibiotics
