1 Ellen Shi Latin 1 Hora 1 Day 5

2 Hestia Goddess of the Hearth and the Home Latin: Vesta Greek: Hestia
I chose this picture of Hestia because you can see that she is veiled and modestly dressed. She is standing behind Demeter, the mother of Persephone, the wife of Hades. This is interesting because she is the goddess of harvest, which helps families prosper. Hestia is the goddess of the hearth, which keeps families warm and safe. That is why I chose this picture. Painter: Name vase of the Sosias Painter Date: ca 500 BC Period: Late Archaic

3 Hestia cont. Parents: Kronos and Rhea
Birthplace: Island of Crete, firstborn out of the first 6 Olympians. Attributes: kettle, modestly dressed, veiled Never married I chose this picture of Hestia because she is veiled once again, and modestly dressed. This is a picture of a statue, so she is very detailed and seems three-dimensional. You can see the folds in her skirt and veil. You can also see the curls in her hair. That is why I chose this picture. The Giustiniani Hestia in O. Seyffert, Dictionary of Classical Antiquities, 1894
