North Korean Map Analysis Luciano Ramirez

Physical Map This map shows North Korea’s physical features through an elevation key. North Korea is mountainous country, but contains coastal plains on the east and west coasts. The Taedong River flows through the capital of Pyongyang. The Yalu River forms most of the border between North Korea and China.

Population Map North Korea’s population is concentrated on its western and eastern coasts. Major cities besides the capital of Pyongyang are Sunchon, Kaesung, Hamhung, and Nampe.

Language Map Virtually all of North Korea speaks Korean. There are various regional dialects. North Korean dialects include the Pyongyang, Hamyong, Gingeon, and Huanghae. On this map, striped areas are places where Korean is spoken outside of the Korean Peninsula. The different colored regions show dialect regions.

Economic Map North Korea has many industries, albeit poor. There is a key on this map, which points out to the locations of different industries. It also shows mining activity according to different minerals. North Korea does not have many major and successful farming areas.

Land Usage The red and brown on this map represent cultivated agricultural areas. The green represents forest Yellow=dry areas and barren land There are not many productive farming areas in North Korea.

Vegetation Map Green = forest Brown = paddy fields; These are place where crops such as rice are grown Yellow = brush areas and barren land; may include mountains

Climate North Korea on the map is in teal Teal = humid continental climate Dark green = humid subtropical

Ethnic Map Red = places settled by Koreans/Korean Peninsula Only a few Japanese live in Pyongyang. Virtually everyone else is ethnic Korean.
