Knowledge of available and state-of-the-art application software and system software Knowledge of available and state-of-the-art IT Understand what the IS/IT can do for the business  (purpose/objective of IS/IT, role of the IS/IT as a solution for business) Discover the opportunities and threats of the IS/IT Maximize the opportunities and minimize the threats of the IS/IT Knowledge of the methods or tools to determine/select the right IS/IT Use the IS/IT to gain competitive advantage Evaluate and measure the impacts of IS/IT on business **(Assuming the business manager knows its business domain, e.g. business strategies, objectives, customers, competitors, etc. well enough)
