WHAT IS HIV HIV= human immunodeficiency virus Once in your body, the virus stays there for life 28 million cases of HIV Spread by: Sexual contact Blood Mother to child

WHAT IS AIDS AIDS=acquired immunodeficiency syndrome AIDS is the last stage of HIV AIDS occurs when your immune system is badly damaged People diagnosed with AIDS usually survive three years

STATISTICS South Africa- highest percentage of people living with HIV AID related deaths decreased 58% in South Africa 59% of the people living with HIV are women More adolescent girls have HIV than males 2.6 million children live with HIV

PREVENTING HIV AND AIDS Get tested for HIV and AIDS Use condoms Don’t inject drugs Take HIV prevention medicine (PrEP) Don’t come in contact with blood or other body fluids

Bush Distributes anti-viral treatments 2.5 million Africans have been helped 1.2 million avoidable deaths in the past 5 years Gives patients more access to AIDS drugs AIDS mortality rate has lowered 18% Financing has been decreasing GLOBAL FUND TO FIGHT AIDS GROUPS THAT PREVENT HIV AND AIDS

ART-ANTIRETROVIRAL THERAPY Controls the virus Live longer Reduces the risk of transmitting it to others Not a cure No current vaccine or cure Taken before infected Kills virus once it enters the body Harder to get infected PREP TREATMENTS
