Advertising Demographic Groups The advertising industry breaks down target demographics into the following age cells, and then by gender. M = Men, W = Women, A = Adults (or P = Persons) 12 – 17 18 – 24 25 – 34 35 – 44 45 – 54 55 – 64 65+ For TV: 18- 34, 18- 49

Watch two ads and answer these questions: 1/ Determine who you think the ad is aimed at (who is the "target market", in other words)? Describe them. 2/ What about the ad tells you that it is aimed at this particular target market? 3/ What is implicit the message of the ad? 4/ What kinds of visual or auditory techniques or "tricks" are the people who made this ad using to send this message? 5/ Are there typical advertising themes or archetypes?
