Overview 88% go to public schools,10% go to private schools, 2% are homeschooled Over 85% have completed high school and 27% received a bachelor's degree or higher. 98% of the population over age 15 is literate School year usually begins in late August, ends in early June.

Elementary School Before elementary, some go to Preschool (4 or 5 years old) First year of elementary is called Kindergarten (German: literally means "children's garden) Then 1 st through 5 th or 6 th grade. Ames has 5 elementary schools

Middle School/Junior High -6 th -8 th grade, or 7 th and 8 th grade -6 th grade is for students 11-12 years old -Students begin to decide which classes they want to take

High School Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior Freshmen are 14-15 years old Sports! Baseball, basketball, football, soccer, tennis, track and field, swimming, volleyball, etc.
