Density increases the deeper in Earth you go. This is because as you go deeper into the earth, pressure, and temperature increase. The inner core is the most dense layer because of its composition.
5
Crust 1. Has the least density 2. Thinnest Layer 3. Its made mostly of silicon and oxygen 4. The Outermost layer
6
1. Continental Crust( Mountains/land) A. Thicker B. Less Dense C. Made of Granite 2. Oceanic Crust A. Thinner B. More Dense C. Made of Basalt
7
When ocean crust collides with continental crust, ocean crust sinks under continental because it has MORE DENSITY! This is called subduction.
8
Lithosphere: the crust and the top portion of the mantle. Asthenosphere: the upper portion of the mantle directly under the lithosphere.
9
Mantle 1. Thickest Layer 2. Middle Layer 3. Made mostly of iron and magnesium. 4. Mostly melted rock
10
Outer Core 1. Liquid Layer 2. Made of iron and nickel. 3. spins around the inner core 4. This spinning around the inner core ---> magnetic field
11
Inner Core 1. Innermost Layer 2. Has the most density. 3. Solid Layer 4. Made of Iron and Nickel 5. Hottest layer
12
Mantle 1. Thickest Layer 2. Middle Layer 3. Made mostly of iron and magnesium
13
Layers of the Earth
14
1. Which layer of the Earth is the thickest? 2. Which layer of the Earth has the most density? 3. Which layer of the Earth is the thinnest layer? 4. Which layer of the Earth has the least density?
15
What type of crust is made of basalt? A. Continental B. Oceanic
16
Which type of crust has the most density? A. Continental B. Oceanic
17
Which type of crust is made of granite? A. Continental B. Oceanic
18
The crust and the top of the mantle are called the __________. A. Lithosphere B. Asthenosphere
19
What layer is the asthenosphere located? A. Crust B. Mantle C. Inner Core D. Outer Core
20
Why does density increase as you go deeper into the Earth? A. Because temperature increases B. Because temperature decreases C. Because pressure increases D. Becauses pressure decreases

A. CrustB. MantleC. Inner CoreD. Outer Core 1. This is Earth's outermost layer. 2. This is Earth's thickest layer. 3. This layer has the most density. 4. This part of the core is liquid. 5. This part of the core is solid. 6. This layer is made mostly of silicon and oxygen. 7. This layer had the least density. 8. This layer is made of iron and magnesium. 9. These 2 layers are made of iron and nickel. 10. This layer is considered the middle layer.
22
A. Continental CrustB. Oceanic Crust 11. This is made of Basalt. 12. This is made of Granite. 13. This has more density. 14. This has less density. A. LithosphereB. Asthenosphere 15. The crust and the top of the mantle are called ___. 16. This is located in the upper layer of the mantle under the lithosphere. 17. Why does density increase as you go deeper into the Earth.
