Fire Drill A method of practicing the evacuation of a building for a fire Time is measured to ensure that exit can happen in a timely manner

Fire Drill Steps Drills should always be treated as a real emergency
Know the steps necessary to evacuate your building Listen to whoever is in charge Stay quiet, follow directions

Fire Drill Steps cont. Pick a safe place 100 feet from building
Classes must stay together Take attendance once everyone is gathered Notify a teacher immediately if you believe someone is missing

Real Fire Activate nearest fire alarm pull
Tell a teacher as soon as possible Evacuate the area

Fire Basics If caught stay low to the floor keep mouth and nose covered Feel doors with the back of your hand Know your alternative exit Stop Drop and Roll

Shelter in Place Chemical Biological or radiological contaminants
Accidental or intentional Valuable to keep radio or TV on at home or work

What it means… Purpose: to keep you safe while you remain indoors
Small, interior room, few or no windows Follow school policy or your home plan

Steps for Sheltering in place
Visitors should remain Designate person to tend phone calls Maintain communication between all rooms Allow students to call family members Change school recording

Steps cont. Close and lock all windows, exterior doors and any other opening to the outside If risk of explosion keep shades and blinds closed Custodians turn off fans, heating, cooling Bring water and food Select a spot with the fewest window and vents

Steps cont. Ideal to have a hard-wired telephone Shut and lock door
Use tuck tape to seal all doors and windows Write down everyone’s names Stay where you are until told it is safe

Earthquakes When inside get under a desk or in a door frame and hold on Cover your head and neck Wait Check for hazards Do not leave area, flush toilets, run waters Be prepared for aftershocks

Earthquake Outside Do not enter buildings
Move 100 feet from anything that could fall on you When finished help as able Check for hazards Do not re-enter building

After call contact next higher up Provide word for word of conversation

Evacuate or secure Stay calm Stay together Do not instigate any confrontation

No one exits Continue with activities inside Access to building will be controlled until safety is determined.
