Sacraments 101 Click here for video As always, while parent sacrament meetings are meant to provide the information you need to guide your child through the sacrament process, it is also important and integral to this same process to provide you with formation as well. The following video does a good job of providing sound theological instruction.

Confirmation Level One Materials Catholic Parent Know-How Your materials have been “bundled” into a Catholic Parent Know- How Sunday Visitor pamphlet. These guides are given to parents for First Penance, First Eucharist and Confirmation. Please take some time, to read over this pamphlet. Presentation of the candidates will only occur at these Masses and at the Mass for Catholic Schools week at St. John Church in Paulsboro at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, January 31 st.

Role of Parents Role of Sponsors Materials Next you will find a pink paper: Role of Parents. Go through item by item. Think about what you do well and where you and your children might benefit from some changes. The Role of Sponsor is helpful for you to guide your child in discerning who they should choose as their sponsor. Sometimes parents wish they had chosen a different Godparent for their child. Think about that experience and how important it is to have the sponsor journey with the child through the Confirmation experience and the rest of their life. You can also pass this on to the person chosen as sponsor so that they can see what their responsibilities entail. Being a sponsor is actually a lifelong commitment to the person you are sponsoring. This is extremely important. A decision regarding your child’s sponsor needs to happen as soon as possible. Your child’s choice should be made by the 1st of May.

Materials Confirmation Service revised The next Item is Confirmation Service. This has been revised to reflect Bishop Sullivan’s instructions that the confirmation candidates know the Corporal and Spiritual works of mercy and be able to link their services to one or more of them in the service journals and letters to him requesting they be confirmed. (Bishop Letter information will be provided later.) The Office of Faith Formation will provide, as we are able, some service opportunities. These are not mandatory. Your child may choose to do other qualified service in the school or community. Two services are required between now and the time your child is confirmed. One for 1 st level Confirmation and the other for 2 nd level. Confirmation Service is separate and in addition to any service done for the Vision program or Catholic School requirements. Your packets contain an explanation of service at St. Clare and two copies of the new Service Journal which is required for the Confirmation candidate to fill out and submit to the Office of Faith Formation to receive credit for their service.
