1 Major Academic Plan (MAP) Why study Biology? A BS in Biology is a gateway to many careers including professional health sciences, natural resource sciences, veterinary medicine, lab sciences, and teaching. The program is based upon a core curriculum combined with a broad array of elective courses whose selection is tailored to career choice. In addition, the program is designed to provide students with opportunities to "do biology." At the introductory level, students enroll in Biological Investigation to learn the basics of how to design, conduct, and present research projects. During their final year, students enroll in a senior capstone course that highlights a research project. Many elective courses in biology also incorporate research projects. In addition, undergraduate students often conduct independent research projects in faculty labs. Our undergraduate students have presented their research projects at EWU's annual Research and Creative Works Symposium and at both regional and national scientific meetings. Biology Options The BS in Biology offers options: General Biology Pre-medicine and Pre-dental Biotechnology Study Abroad Opportunities Working with the Study Abroad Office, Biology students have studied in different countries including Australia and Costa Rica. With planning, courses taken abroad can be part of the student’s curriculum. Department Chair Dr. Margaret A.
