Hub A hub is an Ethernet hub, active hub, network hub, repeater hub, multiport repeater or hub. Is a device for connecting multiple Ethernet devices together and making them act as a single network segment. Prices varies form $35 to $400 depending on brand use and bandwidth.
3
Router vs Switch The functions of these two devices are quite different from one another, even at times the two are integrated into a single device. Switch: Filters and forwards packets between LAN segments. Routers: Forwards data packets along networks. Routers cost varies from$70 to $4000 depending on brand and use.
4
Bridge The bridge is a product that connects a local area network (LAN) to another local area network that uses the same protocol of example, Ethernet or token ring. In the diagram shown below, data from Computer 1 and Computer 2 is still capable of colliding.
5
Gateway In telecommunication networks, a gateway is a network node equipped for interfacing with another network that uses different protocols. Gateways prices varies from $200 to $10,000 depending on brand and use.
6
Firewall A firewall is a system designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network. Firewalls can be implemented in both hardware and software or combination of both.
7
Wireless AP Wireless Access Point (AP) is a special purpose communication device on wireless local area networks (WLANs). Access points act as a central transmitter and receiver of wireless radio signals. Aps support Wi-Fi and are most commonly used to support public internet hotspots.
