1 I Spy….. Rotational Motion In Famous Artwork

2 The Prison Courtyard Vincent Van Gogh (1890)
Example slide: I spy 3 examples of rotational motion in this slide…..Can you find them?

3 Example slide: After you guess where the examples of rotational motion are, you will then see the same slide pop up giving you the answers. The prisoners walking around in a circle represent both tangential and angular velocity. They also display centripetal acceleration because they are constantly turning while they are walking around in the circle. Good luck!

4 Weaver Facing Left With Spinning Wheel by Van Gogh (1884)
I spy four examples of rotational motion in this painting..... Can you spot them? Weaver Facing Left With Spinning Wheel by Van Gogh (1884)

5 Answers The spinning yarn of thread. The spinning wheel.
The weaver/roller. The roller connected to the crank.

6 View of the Naruto Whirlpools at Awa by Utagawa Hiroshige (1905)
I spy two examples of rotational motion..... Can you find them?

7 The wave curving around.
The whirlpool rotating.

8 The Moon (2005) by Sergey Tyukanov
I spy one example of rotational motion….. Can you find it? The Moon (2005) by Sergey Tyukanov

9 The rotating wheel lifting down the miniature house.

10 Vintage Cars and Racing Scene, Automotive Art of Vaclav Zapadlik
I spy one example of centripetal acceleration, and four other examples of rotational motion..... Can you spot them? Vintage Cars and Racing Scene, Automotive Art of Vaclav Zapadlik

11 This car has lost control and is spinning.
The circular track with the cars traveling around it is a good illustration of centripetal acceleration. As the cars are traveling around the track, they still have acceleration even if their velocities aren’t changing, because their direction is always changing thanks to the circular formation of the track. Really old cars have this pulley that needed to be turned in order to start the car. The steering wheel being turned is a good example of rotational motion. The wheels on the car. This car has lost control and is spinning.

12 H&R Chicago Project (2005) by Sergey Tyukanov
I spy one example of rotational motion and one example of centripetal acceleration..... Can you find them? H&R Chicago Project (2005) by Sergey Tyukanov

13 The fork and knife bolted together is a windmill which has rotational motion.
The person walking down the spiral staircase represents centripetal acceleration.

14 Starry Night by Van Gogh (1889)
I spy one example of rotational motion, and one example of universal gravitation……Can you spot them?

15 The moon orbiting the earth is an example of universal gravitation
The moon orbiting the earth is an example of universal gravitation. The moon and the earth both have a force gravity between them holding them in place. The air currents and/or the swirling stars

16 Flying Bottle (2006) by Sergey Tyukanov
I spy three examples of rotational motion..... Can you find them? Flying Bottle (2006) by Sergey Tyukanov

17 The windmill The weather vane spinning in the wind. The wheels on the flying bottle.
