2 NARROW WAY IN THE O.T. Noah Population of the earth is unknown Eight souls were saved (1 Peter 3:20) God’s longsuffering ran out Israelites Number of men was 603,550 (Numbers 1:46) Only Joshua and Caleb entered Canaan (Numbers 26:65)

3 NARROW WAY IN THE O.T. Israel during the period of the judges Most of the people set out to do “what was right in their own eyes” (Judges 17:6) Only after oppression and civil war did some turn back to God During the kingdom period Primary work of the prophets was preaching Their message went unheeded (2 Kings 17:7-18; 2 Chronicles 36:11-21)

4 NARROW WAY IN THE O.T. The remnant after captivity Israel and Judah were taken captive by Assyria and Babylon respectfully. The number of men that returned was 42,360 (2 Kings 19:30, 31; Ezra 2:64) Israelites after the return from captivity Became too busy for God (Haggai 1:1-9) Repeated their fathers’ mistakes (Malachi 3:7) John the Baptist would come (Malachi 4:5)

Jesus said few would be saved A narrow and broad way (Matthew 7:13, 14) Most will enter into destruction The majority found His teaching too strict Abandoned Him (John 6:66) Narrow view of salvation (John 8:32; 14:6) Had to be born again (John 3:3, 5) Original intent of marriage (Matthew 19:9, 10) Give up all to follow Him (Mathew 10:37-39)

Only a remnant would be saved True of Israel (1 Kings 19:18; Romans 11:5) Now saved by the Gospel (Romans 1:16) God’s gift to mankind is free will Desires all to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4) He is longsuffering (2 Peter 3:9) Many will be disappointed on judgment day (Matthew 7:21-23)
