Write 3 expressions to show how you can compose/decompose 500. 1. _____________________________ 2. _____________________________ 3. _____________________________
7
Did you write 3 of these? 400 + 100 = 500 1,000 – 500 = 500 200 + 300 = 500 700 – 200 = 500 250 + 250 = 500 1,500 – 1,000 = 500 499 + 1 = 500 501 - 1 = 500 100 x 5 = 500500 ÷ 1 = 500 250 x 2 = 500 1,000 ÷ 2 = 500 and much, much more!!!

Wallace and Gromit have a cage full of cute little rabbits. The townspeople demand to know how many rabbits they have! Wallace counted 5 rabbits in one eighth of his cage. Estimate how many rabbits he has in the whole cage. ® ® ® ® ® ® = 1 rabbit

Shannon bought the two items below. $17.75 $4.99 Circle a reasonable estimate for these two items. $15.00 $23.00 $33.00 $20.00 **BCR ALERT** Use what you know about estimation to explain why your answer is correct.
31
Did you circle $23.00? I know that I need to estimate the total cost of the 2 items. To estimate I need to round first. I rounded $17.75 to $18.00. Then I rounded $4.99 to $5.00. When I added $18.00 to $5.00, I got $23.00. Finally, I looked at my choices and saw that $23.00 was a reasonable estimate.

I know that I need to multiply 408 x 3. I also know that multiplication is repeated addition. I needed to find out what 3 groups of 408 was equal to. So I lined up my problem to add 408 + 408 + 408. I added the ones, tens and hundreds column and regrouped when necessary. I found the total, 1,224. 408 x 3 = 1,224.
