WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WEB-BASED EMAIL Works through a browser Independent of the computer you are using All mail is stored on the servers of the email service provider Go anywhere and access your mail Communicates using the standard http web protocol Access from anywhere with Internet Can only store mail as provided by them (maybe a space and/or time limit) EMAIL CLIENT Doesn't require a browser Program running on computer Stored on the local computer No access from any other computer Downloads the mail to the local computer All immediately accessible after downloaded Store as much email as you like for as long as you like There is another class of email; server based mail that is accessed using the IMAP protocol. Like a web-based system, the mail stays on the server. However, the program on the client can provide extra services; it is not fixed like a web-based system.
