Welcome to Ms. Cortina’s Classroom! Find your child’s schedule and have a seat at their desk. Use this schedule in order to travel to your child’s classes tonight. Please sign-in at your table. Work to complete the 7th Grade ILA Survey. I will collect these at the end of our time together.

About Ms. Cortina Graduated from Rider University with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and English Currently attending Rider University in order to complete Special Education certification I have worked at Hammarskjold Middle School for a year and a half. This will be year two. I live in Robbinsville, NJ.

Reading Logs/Reading Notebooks Reading logs are checked every Monday for completion and for a signature from a parent/guardian. This is to ensure that your child is completing their 30 minutes of reading at home using their log to track their reading. Your child should be completing at least 2 jots a night as they read. Reading notebooks are checked/graded monthly. All students have a copy of this rubric within their reading notebook.

Grading Policy Reading- 40% Writing- 40% Vocabulary- 10% Homework- 10% ●If a student does not turn in homework/assignment on the day that it is due, they have the next day to show me their work. After that, the grade becomes a zero.

Reading Levels Students are expected to read books that are on their “just right” level or one above. Running Records are given each marking period to monitor reading/check for growth. Extra Help I am available during lunch and after school on Wednesdays (3:00-3:40 pm). All students should let me know at least one day in advance in order to receive a pass. I check e-mails until 10:00 pm.
