A PHOTO II REVIEW Changing ISO and Exposure Compensation
2
Changing ISO How does the exposure rate change every time your ISO increases? Decreases?
3
Changing ISO f/1.4 f/2 f/2.8 f/4 f/5.6 f/8 f/11 f/16 f/22 B 2 1 ½ ¼ 1/8 1/15 1/30 1/60 1/125 1/250 1/500 1/1000 100 200 400 800 1600 3200 6400

Exposure Compensation f/1.4 f/2 f/2.8 f/4 f/5.6 f/8 f/11 f/16 f/22 B 2 1 ½ ¼ 1/8 1/15 1/30 1/60 1/125 1/250 1/500 1/1000 100 200 400 800 1600 3200 6400 ISO 200 f/2.8 at 1/125 = ISO 200
5
Why is this important? Exposure compensation in Depth of Field roll Changing ISO for Push and Pull Processing roll
6
Push Processing “Pushing” your film is shooting at a higher exposure index than the film speed. Exposure Index: the rate at which film is actually used, as it deviates from the actual ISO i.e., using ISO 400, exposing it like ISO 800
7
Push Processing Why push film? -Faster exposure rates -Increased grain -Increased developing = higher contrast -loss of shadow detail
8
Push Processing ISO 400 f/2.8 at 1/15 th sec. ISO 800 f/2.8 at 1/30 th sec. ISO 1600 f/4 at 1/30 th sec.
9
Push Processing Every time you push the film, you need to increase development (processing) by 50%. ISO 400 f/2.8 at 1/15 th sec. D-76 (1:1) 68F 10 mins ISO 800 f/2.8 at 1/30 th sec. D-76 (1:1) 68F ______ ISO 1600 f/4 at 1/30 th sec. D-76 (1:1) 68F _______
10
Pull Processing is shooting film at a lower exposure index than the actual film. i.e., ISO 400, exposing it like ISO 200
11
Pull Processing Why? -lower contrast -greater shadow detail -possible reduced graininess
12
Pull Processing ISO 400 f/2.8 at 1/15 th sec. ISO 200 f/___ at 1/15 th sec.
13
Pull Processing Every time you reduce your EI, you need to reduce your developing time by 20%. ISO 400 f/2.8 at 1/15 th sec. D-76 (1:1) 68F 10 mins ISO 200 f/___ at 1/15 th sec. D-76 (1:1) 68F _____
