3 Subject pronouns First we need to learn the subject pronouns. These are the words that take the place of the subject´s name. Iyo Youtú Heél Sheella Wenosotros (as) Theyellos, ellas You (plural)ustedes

4 Spanish has four subject pronouns that mean you. Use tú when talking to a friend, a family member, or a child. Use usted when talking to someone with whom you have a more formal relationship, such as an employer or a professor, or to someone who is older than you. In Latin America, ustedes is used as the plural of both tú and usted.

5 To be I am You are He/she/it is We are They are As you see the verb does not resemble its parent verb “to be”.

6 SER Yo soy Tú eres Él/ella/usted es Nosotros somos Ellos/ellas/ustedes son

7 Examples Yo soy doctor. Tú eres dentista. Carlos es estudiante Nosotros somos profesores. Ellos son artistas. Él es estudiante.

8 Nosotros refers to “we” in either a group of all males or a mixed group. Nosotras refers to a group of all females. Remember that is you use “nosotros”, it means that YOU are in the group. For example: Tú y yo somos amigos.

9 There is no Spanish equivalent of the English subject pronoun it. You will use the third person singular or plural to talk about objects. ¿Qué es? Es un coche.
