The Library Media Center  Fictional library created for a fictional high school  based upon SIATech charter high school, which does not have a library  Most students live on center at Job Corps San Jose  Majority Hispanic population with Chinese, Ethiopian, and Pacific Islander minorities.  AcTech (Academic Technologies High School) is a small school with limited space.  LMC is very small and had to be created in a portable as there is no more building space on campus (just like SIATech)

3. The Library Media Center  LMC is able to focus on pleasure reading materials and extra resources beyond classroom needs  Each classroom/ department already has a budget for a resource library in the department.  Purpose of the LMC is to meet student needs beyond the classroom Career and college resources Encourage reading for pleasure Provide workspace and resources when classrooms are not available to students Provide library access as most students do not have easy access to a public library

4. Deciding on a Library  Team focus is on high school library media centers  Neither team member has library or media center experience  Decided to create a fictional library for one team member’s school, which does not have a library.

5. Group Process  Decide what to include and divide work  Check-in (via email) and review 1 st drafts  2 nd drafts  3 rd drafts and finalize completed work  Submit completed work  Questions were directed via email and responses took less than 12 hours.

6. Division of Labor  50/50  Input was extremely helpful from the team member employed at a school without a library.

7. Tips for Future Students  If basing a library on your own location, keep in mind that others do not know everything about your library.  Sometimes you can be too close to a topic to recognize what needs to be explained
