Structure Preamble- Introduction/ purpose and states why the Constitution was written. Provide stability, order, protect citizen’s liberties, and serve the people? Does our government do that today? “We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty”

Seven Articles 7 divisions Articles I, II, III create and discuss the 3 branches Article IV discusses the relationships between the states and the national government Article V discusses amending the Constitution Article VI- Supremacy clause- Constitution is the ultimate law of the land. Article VII- Ratification process- 9 states required

Principles Popular sovereignty- rule by the people Federalism- Power divided between state and national government Separation of powers- dividing powe among the 3 branches Checks & Balances-each branch can watch over and safeguard against the other 3 Judicial Review- courts power to protect Constitution

Principles Limited government- limit the power, scope, and size of government.
