With your partner discuss your best memory or memories from primary school How have you changed since coming to secondary?

Myra Hindley and Ian Brady sexually assaulted and killed four children between 1963 and 1965. Only three of the bodies were discovered. Myra Hindley died in 2002. Ian Brady is still in prison.

Read through the poem twice. With your partner discuss what we are told in the poem. What does Carol Ann Duffy think about her teacher? How do you know?

The poet tries to engage the reader’s memories about primary school through the use of the five senses. Highlight any examples of the five senses you can find. What do these tell us about Duffy’s thoughts about school?
