COMMNISTS BANNED! Communists are banned from elections and 4000 are arrested Hitler got more votes but still not a Majority

ENABLING ACT! This gives Hitler the power to pass whatever Law he wants WITHOUT the Reichstag!

NIGHT OF THE LONG KNIVES! Hitler has many of the leaders of the SA killed – including Ernst Rohm This impresses the German army who swear an OATH OF ALLEGIANCE TO HITLER

This event was one of Hitlers key moves for complete power. It was a calculated move to control his SA: Nazi STORMTROOPERS These were over 1 million strong Led by ERNST ROHM HOWEVER Hitler felt threatened by Rohm and such a large force

1.Rohm was a POLITICAL THREAT. He had 1 million men – Could Hitler rely on him? 2.The SA and Rohm were very unpopular with the Wehrmacht (German army) They saw them as a private army 3.The SA were also unpopular with the public

On the 30 th June 1934 Hitler had his SS personal bodyguard kill or arrest the leadership of the SA. Hitler had shown himself to be a strong decisive leader He now had complete control of the armed forces The army swore an oath of allegiance to him and the generals were grateful The public saw it as a good decisive move to restore order!
