Geometry Section 6.4 Rectangles, Rhombuses & Squares
2
oh my!
3
A rectangle is a parallelogram with four right angles.
4
Since a rectangle is a parallelogram, a rectangle will have all the properties of a parallelogram.
5
Recall the properties of a parallelogram:
6
Theorem 6.13 In a rectangle the diagonals are congruent.
7
Examples: Consider rect. LOSI.
8
A rhombus is a parallelogram with four congruent sides. Any rhombus will also have the properties of a parallelogram listed above.
9
Theorem 6.11 In a rhombus, the diagonals are perpendicular.
10
Theorem 6.12 In a rhombus, each diagonal bisects a pair of opposite angles.
11
Examples: Consider rhombus BSRE.
13
A square is a parallelogram with four right angles and four congruent sides.
14
A square will have all the properties of the parallelogram, rectangle and rhombus.
15
Being able to accurately draw each type of quadrilateral will help you to know and work with the various properties of each. Parallelogram Rectangle Rhombus Square
