Even thought the idea of Protestantism was spreading quickly throughout Europe, the Catholic Church was not pleased
Even though the Catholic Church made an effort to reform (think of the Council of Trent), it wasn’t enough. Protestantism continued to spread

The purpose of the Inquisition was to find heretics, and convert them back to Catholicism
